We were taught in school that we, human beings, can never match the high decibel levels of a lion or even the shriek of a peacock. Well, after joining Reliance,I came to know that I was taught bullshit.
More precisely,I must say,I realized this after meeting Devshri. Our entire department were stationed at H Block then. I was sitting at the corner, quite far from Devshri's seat. Still,I could hear almost everything she ever spoke.
We were not friends then. We used to just pass a wry smile whenever we came face to face.
Later, our department was shifted to B Block. Here ,the entire team was seated at one wing.
Devshri was a good friend of my team mate Reshma.Devshri herself did not have much work then( seriously :-)) and so she used to be at Reshma's desk all day.
Reshma and I used to sit next to each other and we were packed all day. We used to envy Devshri and her team. Somebody used to watch movies during office hours ,remember :-)
Once our was under control and we were able squeeze sometime out,Reshma and I would head straight to the pantry.Besides Reshma,Anwar(thaslim) and I,who were the regulars, Delcy,Im-a-raa-n and Minakshi would join us sometimes. Of course,Reshma was the catalyst.
What would we do there???? Besides tea/coffee, we would bitch against the establishment ,the seniors and how good some other organizations were. I was particularly impressed by Yahoo, which distributes chocolates to employees all the time, besides bean bags to relax.
Slowly, we started inviting Devshri and she happily joined us. When she was there ,the discussions would be fierce. Best thing is that when she speaks, she puts all her energy into that.
The result is very entertaining and animated conversation.
I remember when Reshma was discussing about a chap she least liked,Devshri pitched in "Woh aise kaise kar sakta hai,kit-na CHEAP hai". The stress was on the word CHEAP. We were very happy to have Devshri align with us ,especially after one of our esteemed embers parted ways and actualy became that chap's staunch fan. And Devshri was indeed a great asset for us.
And then ,talking about a certain lady they both did not like "Itna gir sakti hai woh???Jee toh chaahta hai ki jaake ek THAPPAD lagaloon"...Whe she mentioned THAPPAD,she had her hand raised. If any of us had given her a slight encouragement, she would have gone ahead and slapped her :-)

Yeah, one more thing I will tell you. Devshri used to attend interviews and then would discuss the questions with Reshma. While people do this secretly, Devshri's high decibel would ensure that everybody knew about it.
Once she attended an interview and then, Reshma and she were arguing about the possible solution. Reshma didn't agree to Devshri's solution,so inadvertently she blurted out "Arrey,Intervewer ne mujhe khud samjaya hai, phir tum kaise keh sakti ho ki yeh galat hai??"
I was quite far from the scene but I could distinctly hear .Actually, hear it loud.
Later, people would ask her about the interview and she would innocently ask Reshma "sabko kaise pata chala ki main interview pe gayi thi"??
We all had gone to a wonderful trip to Lonavla. Reshma,Devshri,Delcy,Im-ar-aan,Mitesh,Maulik,Anwar and myself. We had such a great time.
As I ate at every given opportunity, Devshri noted "Mujhe pata nahi tha ki Hashim ko khaane ka itna shok hai".Probably that is the reason she invited me to her dinner party at Kitchen,Varishta. The dinner was delicious...:-)
On her last day at Reliance, we decided to take her for lunch. Delcy,Im-a-raan,Sw-aa-pna, Devshri and myself went to Spices. Reshma had some urgent work,so she didnt come ( Actually,I think she did not have money then :-)..just kidding)
At the restaurant,Delcy asked her "Tumne apna childhood story hame nahi bataya". Since none of us were that close to her, I said "Common Delcy, that is personal stuff".I said because I was very sure that Devshri would feel uncomfortable to talk to us. But I was shocked when she said "ARREY NAHI YAAR!!!AISA KUCH NAHIN". Were I surprised?? You bet!!!!
And then,Devshri began her story. As expected of her,she put all her energy into narrating her beautiful story. She actually ,re-lived those times. She went through a gamut of emotions and expressions. She smiled, laughed, blushed, then she was sad, almost in tears and finally a sense of calm and happiness prevailed. Kudos to you Devshri, you are a real charmer. If I had the talent to be a novelist, i would have surely chosen her story.
Over time, I realized that Devshri is not just a very very frank and emotional girl ,she also has a very beautiful heart and a very good helping mentality.
Btw,forgot to mention that these days,Devshri's decibel levels have gone down a lot. :-) But all her friends would not mind at all if she goes to high-pitch through the conversation.
I wish her all the happiness in the world. :-)
