My article in Mumbai Mirror

I am over the moon today.
I emailed an article to 'Mumbai Mirror',which is one of the most widely circulated newspapers in Mumbai, yesterday evening and today,to my joy,it was published.

It may not sound a big thing but for me it definitely is.
I am really thrilled, even though they edited quite a few things from my article.

As you all probably know, recently a little girl was attacked by a pack of dogs and they managed to tear away part of her flesh.Fortunately, the girl's dad and other people came to her rescue.
Last year ,2 kids in Bangalore were attacked and killed by stray dogs.Even then, the animal activists were against killing the strays...

I am posting the article here..........................(warning"My Language is not great")
===================================================

This refers to the article 'Feed that stray and pay Rs.500! (MM,August11,2008)'.
I believe that BMC has taken the right step in penalizing stray dog feeders. The number of strays in Mumbai is on the rise and many of us are having difficulty in sleeping at night because of the never ending howling through out the night.
In Bangalore, since the past past few years, many kids have been attacked and a few even got killed by stray dogs. The strays pounced on the kids and tore apart their tiny bodies.Imagine the plight of the parents who lost their little angels just because the stray dogs are allowed to breed freely.Despite this, the animal lovers were against putting those violent dogs to sleep.

I understand the concerns of animal lovers but we need to draw the line somewhere.
Agreed,it is not the dogs at fault but then the 'misplaced love' of the activists needs to be toned down. Lets not let Mumbai become another Bangalore in terms of dog menace.

Lets prevent cruelty against animals but lets also learn to value human lives more than that of animals'.

Thanks,
Hashim AR

India's first ever Gold medal @Olympics

Abhinav Bindra has done what no Indian has been able to do so far.
As you all know by now,ABHINAV has WON a MEDAL at Beijing Olympics.

What a proud moment for all of us.

To be honest, like many of you,I too thought that India would be lucky to win a silver or bronze at this year's Olympics, despite our over-achiever Sania Mirza's tall claims about bringing home a medal. She has been called a safe bet for a medal. It will be great if she too could win one.

But about Abhinav,WOW,what a win.

Thanks a lot Abhinav for giving us this wonderful moment.

About Myself

Hi All,

Hope you had a good weekend.Mine was pretty bad.Had end term exams on Saturday and Sunday :-(

On Saturday,we had a small farewell gathering for a colleague, lets call her Lily.About 20 of us had gathered in the canteen.Among them ,my PM and 2 senior members.

We all had to say ,one by one, something about/for her.
My PM said Lily was like a daughter for her and that they worked like a family and all blah blah...

It was my turn now and I was merrily chatting with somebody. My PM(who is her boss as well) yelled "Hashim,it is your turn".
I said ,quite loudly (so that everybody could hear) " Lily had to work under lot of pressure and suffered a lot here,so I wish her peace and happiness at her new company".

Everybody laughed, other than my PM whose face was ashen because everybody knew she pressurized Lily all the time.

What am I trying to prove here????Is that on your mind now???

Just wanted to let you know about my nature. I can't pretend. I just can't stand people lie so blatantly. And I hate hypocrites.

But I must admit that what I did was not a very intelligent move.I need to be soft and nice to my seniors all the time to climb up the corporate ladder. Many of my friends and colleagues do that.
Day in,Day out.
I just can't.

If I do not like somebody,I can't be sugary sweet to him/her,no matter who they are....
I would rather not talk to them, than be extremely respectful in their front and talk cheaply about the same people behind their backs.

I am FRANK.What you see is what you get. My nature will get me into trouble often and I will never have too many friends because I am not diplomatically nice and boring or cunning.

And you know what?I did try to change myself. I did try to be sugary sweet to people I loathe, like some of my friends do but never succeeded. If I am not true to myself, then how do I sleep peacefully at night? If I pretend to be like someone else all the time ,how do I find my true self?

You can cheat others but can you chat yourself? That too ,in the long run??

Is all the buttering worth it?
